-the development of writing is not just borrowed from Mesopotamia-they borrowed some way the leaders looked. Some of the ideas are borrowed around. -hitacs had seven different languages which means it was not a homogenous place. The leaders are skillful. -Hatusa-capital of Hitacs-it was 4x the size of ucla. One of the major ancient cities which has a good example of population and private spaces are being expressed. they are carrying on fights with their neighbors is a strategy. Instead of meeting people, they are going from one capital to the next and beating up the Egyptian! Another strategy is join them if they can’t beat them! The resulting change over time is a continual progress of fragmentations, consolidation and expansion. Other groups came along. -the sea is a uniting zone! The sea is a place where you can travel. -Minoan-2000-1490-had some good architecture! Has a giant storage jars that can hold gallons of oil and wine. The rulers were able to bring in lots of wheats, oils, and wines for feasts and redistribution. Very famous art called Minoan frescos (?). ritual traditions like dancing. No writing.
