explodes, the person may want to sue Apple for a faulty product or they may go to theircompetition not realizing that they had a fake product. Also, in an even more serious case, peoplewill use the Apple logo and pictures to make fake websites to phish for user data or put malwareon their machine.
Project 48Operational RisksThere are some operational risks that have to be accounted for when running a businessand not all of them are on the outside. The most common operational risk is network security asApple is a top player in cloud services as well as selling a variety of physical and digital servicesand products. Since we have users that are not happy with how Apple may treat their workers orhow they conduct their business or even who they may support politically, they are subject tobeing at risk from an attacker that could be an Advanced Persistent Threat (ATP) or from ahacktivist that is trying to punish them for the moral good. Some attacks that could be faced are aDDOS attack that would prevent users from accessing their website or malware such asransomware that would prevent users and employees from accessing data unless a fee is paid. This would mean that Apple does not have good viability and would lose money for the longerthat they offline along with having to get the information back if locked down or lost.Customers are also another operational risk that occurs outside of the business but theyare an important foundation to the business. The more consumers that you have, the more stableyour business is and the easier it is to gain more customers in the long run because of the qualityof service and word of mouth. Conversely, this can work against the business if the quality ofservice is lacking and if the business is said to not care for their customers. A business will try torectify this by having an open-minded return policy to offer the best service but people may takeadvantage of this by always calling for returns and refunds. Also, if the business makes a mistakewith one of their products such as a certain batch does not meet quality standards or has areoccurring issue then it is up to Apple to communicate with clients that purchased from thatbatch and fix the issue. Some issues may not always be the customer trying to get over and may
Project 49actually be an Apple issue, Apple still has an obligation to make sure that their customers arehappy.Intellectual Property is the last operational risk that we mentioned previously in which wereferenced quality control. If a person or other business were to use Apple’s information, logoand other identifiable aspects, people would think that Apple has authorized them as a seller or issupporting them in some way. For example, when Nike was caught in a scandal with Lil Nas Xover shoes that used their logo, they immediately had to step in and express that they were notaffiliated with the other company as well as sue them for using their brand to sell items with their
