Being able to see that the role of the school social worker goes beyond just the school was very eye opening, it allowed me to see the “Social Work Super Hero” inside her that was willing to go above and beyond for her students showing that she sincerely cared about their wellbeing. Interview questions and answers Mrs. Graalman got her influence for joining the field of social work from her older sister. Her sister originally was going to major in psychology and then took a social work class and feel in love with the field. Mrs. Graalman has been in the social work field since the beginning of her undergraduate career. She chose to work in the school system after completing an internship her senior year of college she deiced that giving back to the community was how she wanted to influence the school system and has been working with them ever since. Unfortunately, Mrs. Graalman stated that with the school system specifically the school social work sector there is not a lot of opportunity for advancement to climb the ladder. Due to the fac that the department only has one director and she has been in her spot for ten years. However, she did state that Guilford county schools strives to make sure that the people they hire have all of the most up to date trainings as possible so she gets sent and enrolled in different classes and conferences to help hone in on their crafts. While interviewing her I was able to see that the more she was able to talk about her job and her daily duties to these students how excited she was. Mrs. Graalman stated that being able to build these relationships with her students she was able to watch their growth from beginning to end most times was the most rewarding part of her job.
