As for the religion criticism, the main concern of the critics cry was that industrial life turns everything into a materialistic society. Although Beard agrees that machines and industrial life are considered the absolute foes of what religion preaches, Beard wants to know can the theologian that cries out against materialism really change the views of others. Beard claims, “After all, how can he consistently maintain that Omnipotent God ruled the world wisely and well until the modern age and abandoned it to the Evil One because Henry VIII or Martin Luther quarreled with the Pope and James Watt invented the steam engine?” (Beard 270). Basically Beard right here is saying how can you assume God wouldn’t want it this way or that the world would become materialistic if we let the “machine civilization” take over? It is basically calling the kettle black, it is hypocritical. Lastly, Beard argues that the humanitarianism criticism has no basis. How can they claim that people were treated justly in the civilizations, like agricultural, before? How can these critics claim, before trying, that this new way of life won’t be better in the long run? They can’t predict the future.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
