Another take on the definition of kinship relationships is that it “is merely an idiom in which economic , social , political , and ritual relations are discussed” (90) . In the kin-ordered mode of production there are two was that power come into play . The first source of power is the control over reproductive powers of women and the second source of power is family origin . Both these sources of power occur across different generations and allow people to have different positions of power and influence . The reproductive powers of women allow social labor to be in the power of females , while the parentage places the power in descent and lineage . Social labor in all of these types of modes has both economic and political dimensions . In the kin-ordered mode specifically , it institutionalizes political power and sets boundaries on the social labor that can be put into effect for the good of everyone . The tributary and capitalists modes are different then the kin-ordered mode in the sense that they separate people into different classes between the surplus producers and surplus takers . The tributary mode is based on the surplus takers acquiring tribute from the surplus producers and the capitalist mode is based on surplus takers using their position to extract surplus from the producers they pay to make their products .

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
