Mr. Nasmyth Jane watched Miss Temple be off & returned to room, walking about, reflecting After reflecting, calmness w/in Jane = gone b/c Jane realizes world outside Lowood All time spent @ Lowood= never left, Mrs. Reed never sent for Jane, never visited, & never wrote Jane knows only school as existence & feels = not enough Jane = puzzled & gets up & goes back to bed & then Jane thinks of “Those who want situations advertise & advertise in Shire Herald Jane knows nothing of advertising, but makes plan – make ad & $ to pay for it & enclose under cover directed to editor of Herald & then put into mail @ Lowtown – answers addressed to J.E. @ post office – Jane go & check in about week Next day, Jane wakes up & writes advertisement about herself – left in drawer all day After tea, Jane leaves for Lowtown to drop off advertisement (perform some small commissions for self & 1 or 2 fellow teachers) – walks returns to Lowood Week passes & Jane returns to Lowtown goes to post office & receives single letter Jane returns to Lowood w/o opening letter Jane opens letter says if J.E. has all these qualities & can provide references of competency & character, name, address, & all particulars to Mrs. Fairfax of Thornfield, then position of tutor = offered to 1 pupil – girl, under 10yrs, & salary = 30lbs. per year Jane begins to imagine Mrs. Fairfax & Thornfield& considers area of Millcote shire (nearer to London = more desirable to Jane); Millcote = large manufacturing town
