Pharoah is very much afraid of the projects, but does find comfort in school because it distracts him from the outside harms. Lafeyette on the other hand does not find much comfort anywhere and lives as not only like an adult, but also as a parent. Lafeyette takes care of his brother making sure that he is always safe when they hear the violence and makes sure no one or anything will harm Pharoah. The boys have been in many situations where they were caught in the middle of gunfire just missing death by luck. Pharaoh and Lafeyette have experienced these situations much to often making them to only grow up faster. They also have lost friends because they have gotten killed which has caused them both pain and make them that much more cautious and stressed. Soon both boys realized that living in this place they couldn’t have many people in their lives as it not only causes less pain, but also allows them to get away from the danger. As a result the boys rely much on each other growing up so they can take care of one another and keep a more positive surrounding in such a dark place.
As you can see this place called the projects was a very unsafe place not only for children to live, but adults as well always worrying how their own kids might endup.
