1. I never realized that Leviticus was not a “Historical” book. I always just assumed that the Bible was a Historical book in whole, or at least the Old Testament was a Historical book and then the New Testament was a mixture. I realize now that it is not correct. Proverbs, Psalms, and Song of Solomon are not historical, and they are in the Old Testament. In history we need people and their experiences to understand the actions that they take. We need Leviticus to show heritage. 2. “The Old Testament represents thousands of years of history. By way of contrast, the New Testament represents less than one hundred years” (Everyday Bible Study, Chapter One). I knew that Jesus’ ministry was only three years, so the New Testament covering only a hundred years should not surprise me but comparing that to the hundreds of years covered in the Old Testament is something I never considered before. 3. Reading the parables or the gospels as individual stories, but rather, “When reading a parable, you should resist the urge to allegorize the various details of parables. In other words, rather than speculate on what every detail might symbolize (or “allegorize”) it is better to grasp the main idea of a parable” (Everyday Bible Study,
