Food nutrition has decreased to allow for the massive increase in production. 11. What was farming like in the great-grandparent generation? What aspects of agriculture motivated farmers then to make changes in agriculture? Farming used to require more time and labor due to the technology at the time. Tractors were pulled by horses and the children in the family had to help on the farm to make sure the work got done. Tractors now also work as sprayers and planters which has made it possible for children to leave the farm as well as reduce the amount of time farmers spend out in the field.

12. What is the basis of America’s affluence (wealth)? The basis of America’s affluence is the fact that we produce more food for less money. We spend less on food than previous generations did. Our great great grandparents were spending 30%-34% of their income on food, today we spend half of that. 13. What surprised you the most about this movie? What surprised us the most about the movie was how large the types of food that contain corn is. 14. In your last meal what did you eat and did it contain corn? In my last meal I ate meat, more specifically, steak, and that most likely does contain corn since cattle are corn fed.
