3.) In today’s increasingly competitive employment environment, would you expect to find many (or any) employers taking a philosophy-laden approach? A philosophy-laden company has no unions, but the lack of organizing is because of the organizations employee relations climate. Management engages in human resource practices it believes are right. These companies are essentially invulnerable to unionization because their employment practices are more attractive to their employees than those unions typically advocate and are able to negotiate. Union organizing activities in these firms are basically nonexistent. Union organization has a negative correlation on shareholder returns. Which means they could argue that because of increased competition, companies cannot afford such strategies that could result in costly employee benefits, and instead focus on other means to prevent unionization.
UNION AVOIDANCE RATIONALE, STRATEGIES, AND PRACTICES 2 4.)Should public policy change in some way so that unions that win representation rights have aguarantee that they will be able to negotiate a first contract?
