Like any other person out there, Mark also experienced these shifts. They involved beginning school, entering adolescence, finishing school, finding the first job, and starting a family among others. Mark was particularly thrilled about the switch from high school to college. Another vital part of life that he experienced was getting married and starting a family. Each transition changes the family roles and statuses and may sometimes be accompanied by an exit or entrance of a family member. For example birth, death, marriage, divorce, and remarriage are all part of the transition they involve a family member either entering or exiting the family. From Mark’s experience, we can notice dramatic changes in his family with the divorce of his parents, him attending school and graduating, getting married and having kids. All these experiences worked towards shaping him and changing his role and status. Trajectories A trajectory can be defined as a lasting array of stability and change which encompasses numerous transitions. In contrast to transitions where changes involve ending one phase of life and starting a brand new phase, trajectories involve longstanding stability in the life of an individual that includes numerous transitions (Umberson et al., 2010). Trajectories should exhibit some continuity in of direction and not necessarily a straight line. For example, once Mark got

LIFE COURSE PERSPECTIVE ANALYSIS 6 married to his wife, he set forth on a lane which involved having kids that led to more responsibilities that he needed to uphold in addition to other multiple transitions like finding a job. The trajectories of every individual in a family may sometimes intersect since they always live their lives in multiple spheres. For example, educational trajectories, health trajectories, and work trajectories among others are bound to cross at some particular stage of life. The intersecting trajectories should be harmonized in a way that ensures there is no conflict of interests. These trajectories areal ways essential in shaping up the life of an individual from the time of birth all through to adulthood. Life Events A life event can be defined as a momentous occurrence that involves a sudden change that may have a lasting impact on the life of an individual. There are specific life events that predominate the life of Mark. These events include the separation of his parents, attending high school and college, graduating, finding a job, getting married and finally starting a family. All these events helped in shaping his life during every stage of development. This concept talks about the event itself and not the occurrences that may arise as a result of this particular event. The effects of these events can be evaluated using the social readjustment rating scale. One can come up with inventories that can help them remember some of the life events that have effects on human performance and trajectories. These inventories can be classified into several categories as anticipated and unanticipated, desirable versus non-desirable, major versus minor among others (Umberson et al., 2010). Specific life events and inventories could also have different meanings to different groups of people depending on how that particular event made
