nurse confirmed that her father had eaten a non-kosher meal unknowingly and that it was not a big deal. Mr. J was one of several Jewish patients at the hospital who were not satisfied with how their dietary needs were addressed. Although the incident had already occurred, application of the indicator of patient satisfaction could help the nurse question her supervisor’s instruction

C489 TASK 1 3 to keep the situation from Mr. J and his daughter. It could have also helped the nurse recover the situation by acknowledging that mistakes were made, apologizing, and showing intent to correct the situation if possible. Advancing Quality Patient Care Nursing-quality indicator data including pressure ulcer incidence and restraint prevalence can be used to compare a healthcare facility’s quality performance to that of similar facilities, discover and assess priority quality issues, identify and explore successful quality outcomes, and measure the effectiveness of implemented quality improvement initiatives in order to advance the quality of patient care. The National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) provides country-wide reported data related to quality indicators to participating healthcare agencies ("NDNQI Changes Hands," 2014). By comparing the frequency of restraint use in its intensive care unit to that in other, similar intensive care units, a hospital can gauge if improvement is needed based on national norms. If both restraint prevalence and the incidence of pressure ulcers in a hospital’s ICU show increasing trends, the data from both indicators can be compared to other facilities through the NDNQI to help the hospital prioritize which area on which to focus first.
