Plot: This story really show the spirit of Christmas, because Delia cut and sells her long beautiful hair to buy her husband a fob chain for his prized watch, then she found out that he has sold his watch to buy her a set of tortoiseshell combs for her hair which she had chopped off.Theme: The theme here showshow much love they both have for each other. Jim has a pocket watch, which is a family heirloom, and Della has her long, beautiful hair.I summed it up as sacrificial love. In the end Della hair will grow back and Jim will be able to buy another watch. The elements/techniques, O. Henry's use to illustrate the theme and conflict expressed in the story, he include poor working class characters, clear detail, and the way how the couple show their unselfish love. Such love, the story and its title suggest, is like the gifts given by “the wise men, called magi who brought gifts to the Babe (Jesus) in the manger. They invented the artof giving Christmas presents.” (Clugston, 2014). Reference; Clugston, R. W. (2014). Journey into literature (2nd ed.) San Diego, CA: Bridgepoint Education
