Mrs Seedat’s observation of her own situation : Mrs Seedat indicated that her increase in confusion resulted from her sons’ initial research about the physical, cognitive and psychological symptoms of her disease and this fuelled her current concerns even further. Clarification of the consultation problem : PD and HD both fall under the umbrella of movement disorders and affect similar areas of the brain. PD and AD also share similar signs that may create confusion among individuals. It is therefore not uncommon that confusion may arise among patients as to the physical, cognitive and psychological symptoms associated with thes e diseases. Mrs Seedat’s concern is the result of her inability to understand these differences and it is therefore important to conduct a post-diagnostic counselling session to educate and inform Mrs Seedat of what the diagnosis entails in term of progression and long-term consequences as well as possible treatments and rehabilitation plans that can be put in place for her to effectively cope with her disease.
