Firstly, one of the most evident technological forces of the 21st Century was that the world has moved toward a more technology savvy era. As a result of this Carnival sought to increase its online and social media presence. The corporation sought to capture potential cruisers by upping their game in popular social media outlets such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Flickr etc. Secondly, the company also engaged in the technology of electronically trading the shares of Carnival Corporation and plc on both the New York Stock Exchange and the London Stock exchange. This level of technology made it available for individuals to purchase ownership stock within the company from anywhere within the world. Thirdly, the implementation of what is called ‘computer-controlled stabilization systems that are focused on limiting the amount of motion that passengers feel due to the sailing of the ship. This level of technology has certainly increased Carnival’s appeal to potential passengers who may be skeptical about cruising because of motion and sea sickness. Environmental Forces: As it relates to environmental forces, firstly, Carnival has served to adopt international requirements of the International Standard ISO 14001:2004. This international standard has focus on not only limiting and diminishing the amount of carbon and environmental impacts on the atmosphere. The amount of pollution by organizations such as Carnival can be enormous, hence, this standard was pivotal in order to erupt candid environmental change, Secondly, Carnival also resorted to commencing environmental training for crew members, as well as health and safety trainings. Crew members comprise of a large portion of individuals aboard a cruise ship at any given time, thus, these employees must be equipped with the necessary environmentally friendly crew members who are willing to help the company achieve its sustainability goals. Thirdly, corporate social responsibility has become a pillar within sustainability for Carnival. It is important that corporations are socially responsible toward their physical surrounding environment and also the humanity of the environment and the various social ills that accompany it. Legal Forces: One of the most important forces within the PESTEL analysis is the legal force. Without laws and legal authority, no corporation can operate legally. negatively been impacted by several lawsuits since its incorporation as a firm. Lawsuits experienced by Carnival have birthed from factors such as passenger injuries, sexual assault, medical staff negligence, food contamination, pollution etc. These lawsuits have resulted in negative publicity for the corporation, financial strains, and decrease potential customer retention.
