The reason for using this technique: 1. The private nature of the topic. 2. Exploratory/research design. 3. Target population is small or difficult to identify
2.Monash university wants to learn about its students’ attitudes towards the e-learning platform Moodle. The marketing research company commissioned to conduct the research opts to use the survey method for their main data collection. The sampling technique they use is cluster sampling: each faculty—business and economics, medicine, law, engineering and etc—is treated as acluster. The faculty of Arts and the faculty of Business and Economics are randomly selected as the clusters to be surveyed. From each cluster, the researchers draw a random sample of students to be invited to participate in the survey. Please briefly comment on the sampling technique used. Is it appropriate? If yes, explain why. If not, what would be an appropriate sampling technique for this scenario? The same cluster of all student majors in the questionnaire. But students of differentmajors may have different needs for the platform Moodle. For example, teachingmethods for art and medicine may vary. Therefore, I think the more appropriatemethod is stratified sampling. Investigators should conduct a questionnaire based onstratifying students' majors. This week’s tutorial (week 7, April 7 - 13) will take place in the computer lab. Make sure you remember to go to the new location for your tutorial.
