Firstly, leaving everything I knew behind, and starting a life from scratch was the last thing I would have wanted at such an age. Being a teenager, I faced extreme challenges that I was not mentally prepared for. Leaving all my friends behind, making friends was very challenging; I found that majority of the students at high school already had ‘cliques’ and it was very hard to fit in. Wanting to fit in so badly, that became the main focus of my time in high school. Things didn’t get easier from there. A top class education was the main reason I had moved countries, so with that added pressure, the stakes were extremely high. The American education system was extremely different from what I was accustomed to in Dubai, which followed a British curriculum. Even the basic concepts of scantrons, daily homework, and pop quizzes were unusual to me. In other words, I was lost. My grades were average, despite putting in tremendous amount of work. I realized shortly after, that it was not the hard work I was lacking, it was the technique of how I was studying for this new system. Another event took place in sophomore year, when I had to move from Texas to California in the middle of the semester. This is when my grades took a major hit and were impacted immensely.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
