ARTISTIC EXPRESSION: CARING compassion, concern, and empathy for others is so incredibly important to patient outcomes that this concept is the initial step in each patient encounter. The element of caring as a nurse demonstrates that everything done for that patient is well-intentioned and in their best interest, thus increasing that patient’s outcomes positively. Nurses should consider how to develop their ability to empathize with patients who are in negative scenarios to allow themselves to determine the best practices needed to push the outcomes to a positive route. This also ties into the importance of attitudes and self-care as negative attitudes and lack of self-care inhibit nurses from providing exceptional care. As stated by Nightingale, although we care for everyone- we must care for ourselves first (Rhodes, Morris, & Lazenby, 2011). Personal Definition of Caring As I look deep into myself, and my personal views. I find that as I gear up to become an advanced practice family nurse practitioner, I plan to provide professional and all-encompassing care to my patients by allowing myself to be culturally savvy as well as conscientious of the needs of both the patient and their families. I will allow myself to empathize with my patient to ensure that I have a deeper understanding of their particular needs. Moreover, I plan on focusing on self-care habits which allow me to focus on caring for myself and being aware of my needs as a human being to be able to stay above stress and the hardships of caring for others throughout many years. All of these practices will lead to a more holistic approach to care in my future

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
