McCandless and the soldiers were in two different parts of the world and different environments, they were both trying to survive in the wilderness they were in. Even though I feel that McCandless and Tim O’ Brien’s soldiers would have meshed just fine I don’t think they would have valued that same things or were looking for the same forms of satisfaction. McCandless’ values were noticeably different when it came to people in his life, and especially the way he treated animals. McCandless clearly had no problem leaving the people that cared for him or that he supposedly cared about for his own selfish reasons for wanting to go on a adventure the claimed his life in the end. Also the way animals were treated by McCandless and by Tim O’ Brien’s soldiers are different as well. When McCandless killed a moose he was overjoyed and in his journal wrote, “MOOSE ” (p.351) on June 9. Not long after his excitement wore of and he became remorseful. McCandless felt that is was, “morally indefensible to waste any part of an animal he had shot” (p.351) so he spent the next six days getting all the resources he could out of the moose carcass such as meat to eat, bone to use as utensils, and fat to burn so that he could keep himself warm.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
