ADVANCED INFORMATION MANAGEMEN is in place. Backup and recovery systems off site help maintain durability of patient health information. Patient Privacy Protection As aforementioned, patient privacy ad security is of primary importance for any healthcare organization. When patients trust their providers, they remain loyal and want to come back. Therefore, all staff must be mindful of his or her surroundings when accessing patient information and charting. If a logged in EPIC user needs to step away from the computer for any reason, best practice advises that the user log off the system so as to keep information secure. As an additional security feature, EPIC will log users out automatically if the system is idle for three minutes. Organizational Efficiency and Productivity Positive improvements can be seen in organizational efficiency and productivity when documentation is standardized. Human and capital resources are used better, and there is a reduction in waste. Preformatted templates in EPIC standardize documentation by preformatting templates such as the admissions questions, care plan, patient education, and discharge plans. Several sub-resources are also available. For example, the flowchart tab allows for charting head-to-toe assessments, vital signs, daily cares, and screenings. The healthcare provider can use drop down menus to select appropriate assessments based on the system’s description. Additional documentation can also be added to each sub-category within the assessment. Furthermore, a standardized checklist turns green when EPIC determines that there has been sufficient documentation completed on a patient. Without the need for paper, EPIC’s digital framework reduces that cost of copier machines, ink, paper, and other office supplies needed to keep papers organized. Further efficiency can be seen with the allowance of concurrent charting by multiple users. Productivity is thereby increased because the many healthcare providers of a patient can each respectively document without having to wait a turn in line. Paper charting would delay care if another worker had to wait for information before proceeding with care. Furthermore, each healthcare provider would have to convene in the one specific location the paperwork would be located. EPIC decreases the wait and allows for real-time charting.. Patient information is updated automatically when a healthcare provider saves the information, and becomes accessible instantly to another healthcare provider no matter their location. EPIC also eliminates
