You need to think creatively about problems, challenges, and opportunities in your business and organization and be able to apply new technology to your business needs. What New Opportunities for IS Are Developing Today? Two Opportunities, Right Now o The costs of data storage and data communication are essentially 0 when compared to the costs of other businesses. You need to find a way to utilize this knowledge and come up with a business that can exploit this information, much like getty images has (they take pictures and post them online for sale, it costs them nearly nothing to store the dats so they make a ton of profit) Moore’s Law o The number of transistors per square inch of an integrated chip doubles every 18 months Dramatic Reduction in Price/Performance Ratio o Because of Moore’s Law the price of computers has drastically decreased over the years (from millions of $ for machines that filled up rooms to $300 small desktop computers) and because of the advancements in technology they are much more efficient.
