important, because the firm culture is collegial and friendly, and it’s important to find people whose personalities fit with that culture. I think the firm tends to hire from a variety of schools, but I have noticed that each local office has a higher concentration of people from local law schools, which is to be expected. For example, in the Richmond office, there are more people who attended UVA or University of Richmond or other Virginia law schools.” Interview Questions • “I met for lunch with the partner then had a call back with other partners. They asked stuff like what kind of work I had done and what I want to do.” • “I was a lateral candidate who was moving from a different city and a different firm. I was asked why I wanted to change geographic locations and why I wanted to change firms. I was asked about the kinds of transactions I had worked on at my previous firm and what role I had played.” Lateral Integration • “The firm was very welcoming and I received training that made it easy to transition; there are many firm resources.” • “Before I came here, the partner had already informed all of the other partners across the team (since we are organized by multi-office teams, not by geographic office) about my arrival, so they all welcomed me on my first week. I felt very welcomed and integrated.” • “I think lateral integration could be better. I have been at the firm for two years now, and I still don’t feel fully integrated into the firm as a whole. But I still feel like there are a lot of people I don’t know and some firm processes and institutional ways of doing things of which I am still not fully knowledgeable. I think having been assigned a mentor or contact person outside of my small group would have been nice, just as another resource to ask questions and a way to meet more people.” OUR SURVEY SAYS Vault’s Verdict: Partners at Hunton & Williams look out for their associates, encouraging them to dig in to substantive billable and pro bono work—and spend time with their

But as they advance within the firm, associates would appreciate some more insight into bonus requirements and what it takes to make partner. Satisfaction • “I’ve found a set of partners to work with whose styles complement my own, and I am given significant freedom to run with substantive and leadership matters. Also, the partners allow me to explore areas of business and law that interest me and to become involved with business development.” • “The job is intellectually difficult and challenging. I am very satisfied with the relationships in my practice group.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
