also is diagnosed with psychiatric issues like Bipolar Disorder, (Plummer, Makris, & Brocksen, 2013), yet Paula had been able to maintain independent living outside the hospital for more than 5 years (Plummer, et. al., 2013). David Cortez, Paula’s ex-husband on his part was able to raise their son
Miguel when Paula’s health could not permit her. This shows some sign of responsibility, despite him being on drugs and it is a strength. From a mezzo perspective, Paula was admitted to a skilled nursing facility after experiencing a partial paralysis on her right side. She has shown some improvement while residing at the facility, particularly with gaining mobility in her arms and legs. Paula also became pregnant despite her multiple health issues and was able to seek help in home services for her and her unborn child (Plummer, et. al., 2013). At the macro level, Paula lives in poverty and it is part of a much larger issue of the imbalance of social wealth and its distribution. Paula does what she can to overcome these huddles by utilizing resources such as public assistance that provides a stable environment for her and her child . She uses resources for childcare as well as legal issues to keep her boyfriend, Jesus, and father of her daughter Maria away from her and her daughter (Plummer, et. al.,).
