However, there was light at the end of the tunnel. During the early to mid 80’s a musical upstart movement called hip-hop had come about. Hip-hop was embracing all musical forms and prime amongst its hotbed was jazz, jazz in its purest form using its driving, pulsating beats to expound and carry forward various social commentaries. This in itself led to a new batch of musicians and artists evolving throughout the 90’s who sought to understand and further better the jazz-fusion vision and concept by freely experimenting with hip hop , heavy metal and a new dance music variation called electronica. What we have today are jazz-fusion albums made by maybe the same group and/or artist that may have well have included a variety of musical styles as its base concept. Rather than just being an organised musical style jazz-fusion may be viewed as having inherited its original musical direction. Although typically instrumental in its approach jazz-fusion is often noted as having some very complex time codes and rhythms. It therefore goes without saying that many fusion musicians at the genres forefront are recognized as having an incredibly high level of talent and ingenuity when it comes to complex fusion compositions and musical improvisation .

Knowledge of jazz has fallen far behind its development. Most people do not know the facts on jazz, only some generalities and stereotypes. Often being called America’s only original art form, jazz began as an ethnic music, but there is much more to jazz than music. It is difficult to think of jazz without thinking of African-American people, but it was probably the first art to challenge European culture and the idea of the classes as time- honored and serious. Jazz was not only musical, but physical, visual, social, and emotional. The popularity of jazz all of a sudden diminished, but it continues to define and give shape to American culture. Many people do not realize its significance. 6 MUSICIANS : Miles Davis Don Alias

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
