popularity of soft drinks in the U.S., companies started to focus on pushing these products to the community, thus becoming the birth of booming capitalism in the US that made it the universal superpower we know it to be today. A History of the World in Six Glasses is a book that I’m glad I had the pleasure of reading. I found the subject matter very compelling in many ways. It’s a rare occasion to find nonfiction book that takes readers on an extraordinary trip throughout history using something so simple that we would never look deeply into: beverages. However, though the topic was very compelling, the writing style was rather the opposite. While reading the book, I often found myself becoming more uninterested by the second (which is a shame considering the subject matter being one of the most interesting topics I’ve discovered so far in my life). He does this is by using credible sources and keeping his point of view neutral throughout the book. The sources that Standage uses in the book seem to come from anthropologists, historians, and primary sources, such as books written at the time, to support his claims. Standage’s point of view is neutral because he is only stating facts in his writing, there are no opinions. Because of these reasons, I believe that this book was written very well overall. Though he could work on being a bit more compelling with his language, Standage pulls through with facts and professionalism.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
