Unformatted text preview: The City council generally has a positive working relationship with the union. They are generally able to solve issues with solutions to issues that is best for all involved. The city has new members on the city council that are encouraging the existing city council members to bargain hard and obtain results that are best for the city. This relationship differs from normal relationships between management and unions in the public sector. There are no unions for most public sector jobs. The unions that do exist has very little that they are allowed to bargain with. There has been some collective bargaining between many of Sunbelt City’s departments including the trash and sanitation department. The trash and sanitation department is now undergoing changes such as changes in work schedule, employee work policies, and salaries and benefits to current and new employees, Current employees are protected yet new employees enter into the organization with a base minimum pay and paying a higher portion of insurance. This agreement was reached due to the city council threatening to contract a private company for these services.
