Nick releases gas in Absalon’s face, who then brands Nicholas (he literally took a red-hot brander and burned Nicholas’s butt) o Nicholas screams “water” in response o John wakes up, thinking that the flood was coming, and falls, breaking his arm o Nicholas and Alison tell the town that John is crazy, leading the town to not believe John’s story. - Appropriate o The Miller only wants to make love to women (objectifying) o He is arrogant and boastful o He says that a scholar doesn’t have to do much to trick a carpenter (direct jab). o It’s a dirty story with dirty motives from an ugly/dirty guy o Sees himself as witty but he isn’t - Type o Fabliaux Raunchy, bawdy, sex, adultery, genitals usually involved. - Satire o Irony Cheating to church Absalon checks out women at church o Hyperbole “Without you I’d die” o Sarcasm
