Image of page 7
Behavioral – Behavioral methods to treating PTSD include exposure, relaxation, and breathing training. Exposure is supposed to break the association of fear and anxiety with the traumatic event. Breathing and relaxation are useful in treating PTSD because it helps the individual relax when they are having high anxiety levels.Cognitive – Teaching those with PTSD about their symptoms and showing they are not crazy and alone in what they are experiencing is very useful for them. Learning about PTSD also means that they are learning that their symptoms do not show up out of nowhere, there is some type of trigger that causes them and understanding that trigger is the first step in making it not a trigger anymore. c)How does one target Social Factors ?Social factors include safety, support, and family education. One that has PTSD needs to feel safe in their environments as to not have their anxiety increase, they need support from loved ones to ensure they are not alone as well as support from doctors to help them get better, and their families need to be educated on their disorder so they know what to do/not to do to help their family member become well again. d)What are the feedback loops involved?Feedback loops involved can start with medication, which changes the activity in the brain and how one can think/feel which then changes how they may not feel shameful anymore and increases their social support because they go to seek help now they’re not shameful which canresult in group therapy. Not being shameful and reducing isolation changes their thoughts and behaviors overall which can help with psychological treatments such as exposure and relaxation.
