surveyed two hundred and fifty full-time nurses in the United States and found that forty-nine percent reported feeling some level of discomfort while inputting patient data into a computer workstation. There are a multitude of factors that need to be considered when implementing ergonomic safety into the workplace and one of the those is making sure to use ergonomically correct equipment. Having access to ergonomic equipment in the workplace makes all the difference and increases workers’ efficiency and productivity. Another benefit is that ergonomic equipment helps to reduce fatigue, exertion and musculoskeletal disorders – all side effects nurses can experience during a long work shift. Plenty of studies have found that if a workplace environment utilizes a sound ergonomics program, then benefits such as a reduction in the number of workplace injuries as well as absenteeism will ensue. Though technology has grown leaps and bounds and brought many wonderful innovations to the healthcare system, there are also some downfalls that come along with it. Things such as, before EHRs, nurses had the opportunity to work on their charting, while being seated giving them a much-needed break from their very active work day. Now, most hospitals
