The proximal tubule is responsible for the majority of reabsorption of water, and essential substances. The tubule accomplishes reabsorption by creating a concentration, and charge gradient by actively transporting Ions, Glucose, and other molecules out of the nephron. To accomplish active transport you need ATP thereforewithout ATP reabsorption will not occur properly, and urine will production will be much higher, and contain all of the molecules normally reabsorbed through active transport.
