- The first amendment does not allow restrictions based on the speaker’s corporate identity. In previous decisions the court ruled that large amounts of money from corporations involved in politics could have negative effects. Here the government's interest in preventing corruption does not outweigh a corporations free speech. 1. What does the blanket prohibition require? It requires complete prohibition with no exceptions. 2. What was the purpose of the blanket prohibition? The idea of this is because big corporations can greatly influence the public. It also avoids this “something for something” idea that leads to corruption.
