640 Vault Guide to the Top 100 Law Firms, 2018 Edition MINTZ, LEVIN, COHN, FERRIS, GLOVSKY AND POPEO, P.C. • “Tons of responsibility given as soon as you can handle it, and often before. Cases are often small-time and the quality of clients and opposing counsel often reflects that. I actually had a personal injury case last year.” • “Partners are extremely sensitive to providing work that will contribute to growth and development, rather than menial busy work.” • “As a mid-level litigation associate, I am given opportunities to present arguments in court, draft substantive pleadings, and manage discovery. This firm does not have appropriate support resources, so I do spend a fair amount of time doing paralegal-type tasks. However, this is compensated for by the substantive opportunities afforded at a junior level.” Training & Mentoring • “We receive a full three weeks of training with monthly follow-up sessions. We also receive several mentors and other associates are happy and willing to act as informal mentors as well.” • “The firm provides money, sets up a mentoring program, and gives wide latitude to match with a mentor when a mentoring relationship already exists; in other words, the firm doesn’t force you into a fake relationship. The firm provides lots of training and training hours are included in billable hours for the most part; trainings are useful, relevant.” • “The firm provides extensive opportunities for formal training, and the associate mentorship program has been incredibly helpful during my first few months.” • “The firm has formal training and mentoring that they provide. While it is helpful, most of the training we receive is still one-on-one with partners. The partners generally provide good training, but it depends on the partner and the situation.” Career Outlook • “It’s realistic to make partner, but it will take a while. The firm is trying to do a better job of providing exit opportunities. For the most part, I’ve seen partners take advantage of exit opportunities to clients and not associates.” • “Partnership is very difficult. The firm is very understanding (and affirmatively helpful) for associates who decide to look elsewhere.” • “Promotion to partnership is very realistic if you are interested and willing to make the commitment.” • “The partnership track is a little opaque. I generally understand that if I bill a high amount of hours consistently, I’ll be eligible. It takes a lot of time to make partner (10+ years, from what I’ve seen) and the politics of who gets promoted are murky.” Pro Bono Commitment • “There are a lot of different pro bono opportunities, so if you are proactive about making time for them you can get great experience. A lot of attorneys don’t do any pro bono, so I think you have to be self-motivated in order to make the time and seek opportunities.” • “Mintz has extensive clinics, founded the Massachusetts Appeals Court Clinic, and encourages pro bono work by its associates. We have a dedicated pro bono partner to

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
