Downloading Firmware Update 1:37-3:39 So let's scroll down here, we want to find downloads, notice here we have a download for the N300 Wi-Fi N router and it has a model number of F9K1007 firmware. Let's click on it. Let's go ahead and download the firmware update file, click save, and it tells us that the download is now completed, let's click on Open Folder and there's the file. Now this file that we downloaded contains the updated firmware that we need to apply to the chipsetin the wireless access point. So to do this we need to come back over here and use this interface to load the new firmware into the hardware of the access point. We do that by clicking Browse right here and then selecting the firmware update we just downloaded, then hit Open and it prompts usare you sure you want to install this update, I say, "Yes, I do, thank you." Now it warns us at this pointthat we should not turn off or reboot the router and this is so important when you're updating firmware because if you stop the process by turning the device off before the actual update is complete, you probably will destroy the device. If it's a motherboard then it's going to become a boat anchor or if it's a access point like this that we're working with, well it just became a nice paperweight for your desk because the software needed for it to run will be incomplete and therefore we can no longer access this interface to complete the firmware update and hence there's nothing you can really do with it. We'll click OK, so now we just wait for a few minutes while the firmware is updated. It tells us down here that it'll take a couple of minutes so I'll pause the recording, we'll come back when it's complete.Alright it tells us that our firmware has been successfully updated. Now notice as we went through the update process that the router itself was rebooted in order to apply the update. Now that that's done the new firmware is in place and running on the wireless access point. Summary 3:40-3:55 That's it for this demonstration. In this demo, we talked about implementing firmware updates on network devices. We first determined the correct make and model of the device, then we downloaded the appropriate update from the manufacturer's website and then we used the web- based configuration interface for the wireless access point to load the update. System Backup 0:00-0:34 (typing) (ding) - Let's discuss protecting system data. One of the most important ways you can do thisis to make regular backups. A backup is a copy of data that is archived and can be used to restore data if it becomes corrupt or lost. Backups must be performed while the system is in good working order. In other words, disasters must be planned for ahead of time and the necessary actions taken to protect the system before there is a problem.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
