Just between 2006 to 2010 there was a 45 percent increase in heroin overdose deaths in the United States. the 18-26-year-old group – the largest user group abusing heroin and prescription opiates. In Winnebago County, there was 124 deaths from over doses in 2017 and 96 deaths in 2016. Opioid overdoses are becoming so common placed in the community that all police officers are caring Narcan with them in their cruisers. 1. Other data as needed (air, water quality, crimes rates). The crime rate in Rockford is well above the national average. Crime in Rockford is 91.7% higher than in other US cities (city-data, 2018). Violent crimes in Rockford are 902.2 compared to the national average of 216. Most of the crime is on the far east and west sides of the city where gangs and drugs are. Crime increase in Rockford 10 years ago when the city of Chicago made a deal to take one of the worst housing projects and moved all residents to Rockford. This is when crime increased that most. Air quality is good. Rockford is known as the Forest City and has many parks and trails. Water quality is fair. 23

What impressions from your subjective observations were unfounded/invalid? My impressions of the subjective data are validated. Childhood obesity is a major concern that needs to be addressed. The obesity rate in Rockford is one of the highest in the nation and Illinois as a state has an obesity rating of 31.9% (the state of obesity, 2018) Also, opioids are a major concern with in the community. This is a national epidemic, but with over 100 deaths per year in a city of 150,000 people, that is a large number. With the opioids comes the crime as well (Rockford Register Star, 2018) Given the objective data , what impressions were validated/substantiated? All data was validated. Obesity and opioid abuse are major health concerns for this community, this state, and nation. Obesity was not as noticeable during windshield survey due to area being observed, but as I drove around, it was much more noticeable.
