Bob and DeLeon are searching the desert for the person that Bob found a few weeks
earlier. Bob contacted the local authorities, and they only spent about five minutes
looking around before they left without concluding any evidence. Bob and DeLeon are
going back to the spot where the body was found to try and put together what happened
and try to identify the body. The significant thing about their findings is that there was no
skull, therefore making it almost impossible to identify the body. The found “splinters of
human bone, mostly sun-bleached rib fragments that have been cracked and gnawed by
some long-gone animal. Just off the trail I spot a complete tooth lying on top of a rock”.
Another significant thing about this is that they found teeth, but no skull making one
wonder where the skull could have gone, and how the teeth got detached from the skull.

DeLeon says the significance of the term “illegal” is a way for people to dismiss the
migrants as human beings, and people just like themselves. DeLeon states “...a noncitizen
who broke US law and faced the consequences. Many of these same people tell
themselves that if they can keep calling them “illegals,” they can avoid speaking their
names or imagining their faces…” This shows that people don’t want to have any
