Streams and Lakes and ponds Springs, rivers and lakes occur when the water table reaches the surface. The water always stays in equilibrium with the lakes and rivers Wetlands The water table is usually either near or at the surface. Water Table Depth is NOT always flat o The water table is not flat; it is a sloping surface. o Water flows from higher elevations to lower elevations. o Topography is useful for estimating groundwater flow. o Water moves with the same velocity Global Patterns of Groundwater Table Depth o In addition to topography, water tables are influenced by many factors, including geology, weather, ground cover, and land use. Tapping Groundwater o With drawdown, the water table near the well drops. o Water table decline forms a cone of depression. (low pressure area) A downward-pointed conical-shaped surface Groundwater Depletion o With drawdown, the water table near the well drops. o One cone can dewater another – dry well o Lowered the water table o Severe water table decline can alter surface water flow. By capturing flow, wells may dewater streams and lakes. Especially problematic in arid and semiarid regions o Companies steal water from citizens houses, lowering their water table o Cones of depression are capable of reversing flow.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
