When someone threatens a family member or friend, it’s as if they’re threatening me too . It says in St . John 15 in The New Testament “this is my commandment: that you love each other as I have loved you . There is no greater love than this – that a man should lay down his life for his friends,” and that’s the love I believe most people lack . I believe that this is true because you’re basically hardwired to love your family, but friends are different . Friends are initially strangers, and you’re taught to be distrusting of them . However, when you can find someone that you ultimately trust and say you would be willing to die for, I believe you have made that choice out of completely sincerity . There aren’t many people I say I’d be willing to die for outside of my family and I really don’t believe that you have to know someone for the longest of times before you become close to them . The summer I met Tyler, we created a bond right then and there . From the first day we met, people thought we had known each other for years or wondered whether we were related because of how we were acting around each other . It’s easy for me to get along with people, but with Tyler it was as if I’d known him my whole life . I don’t usually tell people much about myself (especially when getting to know them), but we were both telling each other about our lives . I’ve never met anyone like him before, and I don’t think I will again . Maybe it was because I had people like him in my life, that I was so willing to believe that there was hope for communities to flourish . I guess I’m dependent on the people who are like me and who are like Tyler that keeps the hope alive; that there are people out there who do have a regard for people’s lives and treat strangers as friends they haven’t met yet . Those who are too busy trying to get to know you rather than judge you for who they think you are . I do believe that this would be part of an idealistic community .

I maintain that the biggest struggle that I have with “community” is living the way the Qur’an and Hadith tell me to live; and then wanting to take the easier route and live how most others live . According to the Hadith the Messenger of God said, “You will not enter paradise until you attain to faith, and you will not attain to faith until you love one another . Shall I tell you of a thing to do that will make you love one another? Spread peace among yourselves” (99) . I believe that sometimes in this day and age, it is hard to love everyone . It’s especially hard when people do things that are so evil towards others . How am I supposed to love someone who has hatred towards someone else? There is so much chaos going on this world that the peace that is being spread is enveloped by the disarray . If we have to love one another, wouldn’t that mean I would have to love the boy who killed my friend, and the one who helped him? When my friend first died, I wanted them dead . I want them to die in the most painful ways . Then, I wanted them to die the way that he did so they could feel all the pain that he felt .

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
