4. After the election of Barack Obama, many suggested that America had become a “post-racial” nation. Identify the theories and evidence that disprove this view. Once Barack Obama, our first black president, was elected, many people inside and outside the United States though that racism and discrimination was a thing of the past, while it was actually the beginning of a new era when it comes to racism, especially in politics and economics. Even Obama himself saw his presidency as transforming America into a “post-racial” nation in a “naïve” way, saying in his own words "I think any talk of it being a post-racial America after my election was never realistic” . This is because even though Obama winning in a way represented how a lot of people are now open to someone different than the ordinary being the president of their country, many others still were against that change and tried to argue against it, creating new types of conflict. Racism and all the social inequalities it causes are not something that can be fixed and changed from one day to another. It takes a lot of collective effort, and more than anything, time. Having a black president did not mean discrimination was over, or that everyone would live lives of equality, sadly. One thing that is for sure is how we are a less racist country than we were some

50 years ago, there is not doubt of that, but still, that does not mean the fight against racism is over. I believe just the fact that when Barack Obama became president everyone focused on the fact that he was black instead of focusing on his academic preparation and readiness is more than enough proof of how there is still a wrong concept of the races in our country.
