taking care of a patient. I tend to focus on what’s important here and now and fix the things that are keeping them in the ICU such as blood pressure and respiratory support. My other courses have reminded me the value of thoroughly assessing every system as they are all intertwined and tell a story. I have taken this new approach back with me and found I can paint a better picture of my patient when I do this. This helps me uphold my nursing philosophy as that I have a responsibility to my patients to provide safe, holistic, patient-centered care to the best of my ability and advocate for them when needed. Self-reflection is crucial to personal and professional development in any profession. As a nurse self-reflection allows me to make changes in my future. After reflecting I can evaluate where I want to be and how I have been doing so far. I can make changes and track progress. Self-reflection also allows time to realize and appreciate how much I have grown as a nurse and
Philosophy of Nursing 3 reflect on all lesson I have learned and people I have met that also help mold me into the nurse I want to be. Without self-reflection I would not be able to stay true to my nurse philosophy.
