problems associated with urbanization is sustainable development. Sustainable development might be defined as a balance between human needs and saving the environment. According to Sullivan (2016), “one factor was the economic and technological developments that made it possible for people to live far from where they worked” (pg. 352). In the early 20s, many people were limited in where they could live by in order to find transportation to work. Looking at what urbanization means, the movement of people from rural areas to urban areas, it can be concluded that sociologists meant urbanization as a process of diffusion of certain modernizing traits or characteristics in a population. modernization. Therefore, urbanization can be summarized as a process which reveals itself through historical, three-dimensional and sectoral changes in demographic, social, economic, technological and environmental aspects of life in a given society. Although the federal government has played a significant role in finding solutions to urban problems over the years, recently there has been a push to find solutions in which government involvement is small or nonexistent. The government has attacked urban problems with programs such as urban renewal and community development block grants. Private investment has focused on developing cities as better places to live, sometimes through the establishment of urban free-enterprise zones. Urban homesteading and regional planning have also been used to improve conditions in cities. 4
