show Kate Plus 8 her kids have been in front of a camera since birth day in and day out, these children live their lives on camera for other viewer to see. These kids live their lives in a routine for the show itself this impacts the way these kids grow up. According to Kimberlianne Podlas
she says that “the children who appear on reality TV shows are stripped of their privacy and put into situations that may harm their emotional well-being, and that the type of parents who put their children in such situations may not adequately protect their children’s interests” (Podlas), which can have very negative effects of the child as they get older. When you think about how living life through the aspect of a reality show these kids are not getting the quality support and all the attention that a parent should give to a growing child because the parents are wrapped up in providing for the show and so their kids come second. The exploitation of children on reality television is growing dramatically. According to the book “Jon & Kate plus Eight “Reality TV & the selling of the Gosselins” written by Polly Kahl states that “The children are being exploited it’s time for America to see the situation for what it is, which is unfortunate. There are no law protecting children in reality TV shows…and this is not a healthy environment for kids to be raised in.”( Kahl). It then goes on to say how children are affected by the camera being in their faces all the time, when they get into trouble or when they cry is not supposed to be a form of emotion that everyone should have the chance to be involved in, most kids when they cry or are in trouble they tend to shy away from others or hide and with someone in their faces with a camera during this time doesn’t allow them to escape. In some other cases we can look at the problem of reality TV forcing kids and teens to grow up faster than they should. Children are being forced to not be children. The way they are depicted on shows like 16 & pregnant and Toddlers & Tiaras is not what people think when they think of children. The little girls in Toddlers & Tiaras that airs on the TLC network are forced by their parents to be highly competitive to a since to were people think it pushes the boundaries if this is ethical or not. In this show girls from as young as 3 and 4 years old are made to participate
by their parents to compete in beauty pageants as if they were adults. The costumes that the children wear are outrageous and should never be worn on a child from fake boobs to long wigs, spray tans and a face full of make-up and these little girls are 3 and 4 years old. Is this too much? Most of the time the kids are too young to exactly realize and be fully aware as to what they are doing and what type of outfit they have on, they are just doing what they are told to do by their mothers who take this more serious than the children do. These kids not only have to dress the
