Preferred the plain sugar water over the alcohol

preferred the plain sugar water over the alcohol after a period of 7 weeks of DHM laced alcohol water. After the tests, the researchers injected the rats with Flumazenil (a drug known to block receptors in the brain for the neurotransmitter GABA). The rats that were injected with flumazenil lost all the benefits they gained from the intake of DHM. So these researchers concluded that DHM is an effective sobering supplement due to its ability to prevent alcohol from blocking GABA receptors. Dihydromyricetin has also been tested on humans. a recent research was done where 98% of pure dihydromyricetin was administered to humans at a dosage rate of 5mg. the alcohol was taken orally as a vodka drink mixed with an orange juice at the rate of 12.7ml per 220-pound 20 year old male. The men used as subjects were placed in a room with friends in a lab designed and decorated to look like a realistic living room with food and a television.

The first test involved consumption of alcohol at the rate of seven doses followed by a 150mg dose of DHM. Within 30 minutes the test subject was able to reason accurately and within an hour he felt completely sober, but still sleepy. The second test done involved ten doses of alcohol followed by a 250 miligram dose of Dihydromyricetin. Within 30 minutes the test subject felt slighly better, within an hour noticed feelings of clarity, within 1.5 hours felt like they were sobering up, at two hours they felt clearer and better (blood alcohol test showed 0.03%), and finally 2.5 hours later, felt close to baseline and sober (blood alcohol test shows 0.01%). The third test that was carried out involved four doses of alcohol followed by 450mg of DHM. Within 30 minutes the test subject felt buzzed, but clear. At an hour they reported that DHM had greatly reduced their desire and capped it to four drinks. At only an hour later they felt completely sober and free from intoxication. The fourth test involved six doses of alcohol followed by 450mg of DHM. After 30 minutes the test subject felt like they were sobering up. After an hour they felt completely sober. And at 1.3 hours later they felt hungry. Though at 1.5 hours they felt nauseated from eating. The tests that were done are conclusive that DHM does affect a persons ability to become intoxicated, desire alcohol, and sober up after alcohol consumption. The only issue with DHM is finding out the accurate dose because it varies from one person to another. So far there hasn’t been any notable side effects In mice, rates or even humans but it was noted that the intake of DHM reduced the desire to consume alcohol products. a lot of researchers are concerned that DHM will bring negative effects and will encourage individuals to drink more because they feel that DHM will help them keep healthy livers while consuming large amounts of alcohol. researchers are trying to figure out if this is an effective way to control alcoholism and its vast effects but right now this drug is one of the only remedies to help people with Alcohol Use Disorder.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
