My Personal Thoughts or Comments: I have learned that although laboratory instruments vary in complexity and size, they all hold great value to the laboratory technician. Without automation, analyzing would be quite difficult and time consuming. Laboratories rely on instruments tremendously; therefore the daily maintenance procedures are extremely important and the instruments should be treated with care because they are great investments to the laboratory technician. For instance, when performing daily maintenance on the IMX, I realized that although it may seem like a bore, it is really necessary and worth it. Some instruments are even portable like the LDX Analyzer. One with no prior knowledge on the LDX Analyzer may look at it and think that it is insignificant due to its small size; however, it is actually a very important instrument that analyzes triglycerides, HDL, LDL, and Total cholesterol even though it does not look that complex. The QBC yielded results very quickly which would be useful when working under stressful circumstances. Because the laboratory instruments are so reliable and accessible, they help to optimize the laboratorian’s performance. I imagine that they allow for more flexibility; for instance, errors are inevitable at times, but since the many types of instruments are available, it is okay for errors to occur every once in a while. Instrumentation takes some of the pressure off of the laboratorian. It makes one even more thankful for technological advances. In conclusion, instruments are extremely important to both the laboratorian and the patient. And, since we only have to analyze

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
