Between both the girls and boys they are all seeking approval in some way. The girls look for acceptance and inclusion from the social group they’ve formed. The boys are looking for laughs and are achieving their goals by entertaining their friends. Overall I am watching as their self-esteem is changing. 1115am-1130amThe coach asked the children to split into two groups, one group behind each cone. Without a word regarding the matter, the girls and boys split like a wall was driven between them. The only one who seemed hesitant and almost seemed like waiting for instruction was the little girl. I think she wasn't sure if it was okay with the other girls if she joined them. When she realized it was the only option she joined them at the back of the line. The coach introduced the drill they would be doing and after having to correct the boys for talking during instruction, she let them
begin. The boy’s ring leader in the red shirt went first as well as the girl in the head band. As they went through the drill, something new happened each time the boys rotated through the line. I had a feeling that as they were doing the drill itself, they were thinking of something silly to do when they got back in line. The girls were more so to pick up where they left off in their conversation.1130am-1145amThe drill ended after many rounds and just as the coach was ending the drill, the red shirt boy decided to roll up his shirt, tucking a tail in the front through the collar. I remember this from when I was younger and the boys thought this was hilarious because it made them look like they had a bra and breasts. There was no change in the response 11 years later between these boys. They boys giggled and snorted and fueled the fire. The red shirt boy had his hands on his hips and proceeded to strut around waiving a hand and pursing his lips, clearly trying to give an impression of femininity. He had also gotten the attention of the girls in the group who were giggling and pointing. Though they had very little interaction earlier, this was again, encouraging. The other boy of the pair started to tuck his shirt up too but before he could the coach was already calling the attention back. She told the red-shirt boy to put his shirt down and after another wave and striking a quick pose he did. The coach was now introducing a 4 v 4 game.
