Assume all Hindus believe or practice the same things, some chose tobelieve only parts of the faith.Make fun of Hindu practices or beliefs such as their polytheism, rituals, temple ceremonies, etc… you won’t be able to regain their confidence toshare openly with you.Invite a Hindu over for dinner and offer them meat or eat meat in front ofthem, you will disrespect them completely, Ryan Turner(2008:n.p.).I hereby would like to thank you in advance, as I trust you took the time toread my letter and take in account the arguments and also the suggestionsregarding Hinduism and Christianity’s foundational doctrine differences.Yours truly,Henry Read Theology Student6

Assignment 5 – The Basics of BuddhismIntroductionIn this article I will look at the different aspects of Buddhism with regard to the origin, the life of Siddharta Gautama, the four ultimate truths, the eight paths of Buddhism definitions of concepts, different schools and how to evangelize Buddhists.5.1 The Origin of BuddhismBuddhism originated from a guy by the name of Siddharta Gautama(Buddha), who was born about 560 B.C. Siddharta Gautama grew up andwas still living in his father’s palace because it was prophesied that he will bethe savoir of many if he leaves the house and therefore his father kepteverything away from him. One day Siddharta Gautama told his father hewanted to explore; this is when his eyes were opened, McDowell andStewart (1982:305). Here out on the streets he came to know that everyone ages, everyone getssick, everyone dies and that some beg for food. He decided that he willleave the house to start the quest of seeking enlightenment. he apparentlystayed under a fig tree for 7 days, seeking wisdom and came to know that isname is no longer Siddharta Gautama but Buddha, the enlightenment one,McDowell and Stewart (1982:305).5.2 The life of Siddharta Gautama7
Siddharta Gautama began his ministry and the Buddha with 5 monks, his companions, and started to minister in Benares, McDowell and Stewart (1982:306). The sermons that he caught contained the following message:You are to avoid the two extremes and are not to be practiced by one who hasgone forth from the world, for the Blessed One has gained the enlightenment ofthe Middle Path, which produces insight and knowledge, and leads to calm, tohigher knowledge, enlightenment, nirvana, McDowell and Stewart (1982:306).The Middle Path is the noble Eightfold Path namely: right view, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, rightconcentration. He taught the noble truth of pain (dukkha), the noble truth of thecause of pain, the noble truth of the cessation of pain, which is all combined inthe Eightfold Path. Buddha was 80- by the time of death and his teachings hadbecome a strong force in India, McDowell and Stewart (1982:306).
