Patient denies tenderness in or around outer ear Purpose of the otoscope An otoscope allows the healthcare provider to visualize the inner ear with magnification and light. It provides the ability to view the inner ear structures and the ear drum. The provider can use it to look for redness, inflammation, discharge, s/s of infection or foreign objects. Test hearing (cranial nerve VIII) and conduct the voice test Patient denies the use of hearing aids. CN VIII intact. Patient able to repeat whisper test correctly B ear. 7
