o TCP/IP (transmission control protocol/internet protocol) technology transmit data by breaking it up into small pieces, or packets (packet switching) o 802.11 is family of standards for wireless LANs. Networks o Types of LANs- Network Architecture Client/server network Server controls access to the hardware and software File servers Print servers Database servers Peer-to-peer network Simple and inexpensive Each computer (peer) stores files on its own storage devices Sharing Resources o Peer-to-peer file sharing allows users to share files, usually music, by making their hard drives available to other users rather than posting them on a central server. o Grid computing is about sharing processing power rather than sharing data.
