• “Overall very satisfied. To the extent BigLaw litigation continues to be something I want for a career in Chicago, Kirkland is really the only choice for big firms.” • “I find the work and responsibilities at Kirkland to be challenging and fulfilling and the opportunities to demonstrate one’s skills and leadership to be plentiful. The open assignment system, while at times tricky to navigate, provides young associates with a significant amount of control over their work and career.” Firm Culture • “Very tight-knit and informal. Like a sports team. More politically conservative than your average law firm. Very swashbuckling and fun. Lots of strong (but good) personalities.” • “Many Kirkland attorneys and their significant others are close friends who socialize frequently outside of the office. The firm also does an excellent job of continuously arranging social activities (beer cart Fridays, class year events, Thanksgiving lunch, etc.) which include not just attorneys but often times staff as well.” • “Kirkland has opportunities to be as social as you want to be. I appreciate that the firm generally leaves it up to you, without forcing you into any particular culture.” • “The whole firm emphasizes independence from a professional perspective, which trickles down to the firm’s social culture. I’m a huge fan of the independent work culture—there’s a big focus on small teams and each attorney handling their weight.” Associate/Partner Relations • “I get along exceptionally well with the partners with whom I work. I am able to ask them for feedback and help with the management of building a team for a project and the client billing for that project. They are also candid with me about associates we are putting on a team that may need additional supervision; I really feel like a partner in training.” • “The firm is pure ‘free market.’ Partners who are disliked under this system would quickly find it difficult recruiting associates to work on their teams. I have been treated extremely well by every partner I have worked for.” • “The focus is obviously on serving our clients. Partners are very friendly and approachable. I was impressed by how transparent the bonus presentation announcement was. There were a number of slides that showed how they arrived at the numbers.” • “Kirkland places a great emphasis on having excellent lawyers who are—wait for it—also good people. If you are a partner or an associate who mistreats those junior or subordinate to you, then you won’t last long here (even if you are a rain maker or went to a top law school).” Hours • “Free market system means you decide how much you want to work. The better you are the more calls you get, but nobody objects if you turn down work because you’re too busy.” • “Kirkland has a smart philosophy. I have never heard anyone glorify over-working themselves, nor does the bonus structure encourage you to work beyond an amount that is effective or smart. I love that pro bono counts for the same as billable

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
