companies should be forced, or strongly encouraged to follow the Triple Bottom Line because those actions benefit all of us. However, a very fine line exists between all three pillars of the Triple Bottom Line, and where to place an emphasis. All companies have different needs, so although I believe companies should try and follow the Triple Bottom Line, I think it is nearly impossible to hold any one company to those standards. JC Response: I agree, as the TBL is not meant as a sustainability regulatory approach to accounting or business, but rather is an awareness-raising tool to get executives and plant floor workers to think more precisely about what their business is and does, and why they are in business, but also in society and the planet every day. It is a concept, and not the solution… DP #20: The Relationship Between Sustainability and SME’s As stated in the textbook, SME’s account for around 90% of all business; however, they often fall behind in their sustainability efforts. What can be done to increase the number of SME’s and their engagement with sustainability activities? The fight for global sustainability will be fought through SME’s and their leaders. Without the active participation of these leaders, it will be hard to see the continual progress of business sustainability. I believe federal, state, and local governments can work with these business leaders to adopt corporate tax benefits for sustainability business activities. Furthermore, I believe this is a topic that has support on both sides of the political isle, as well as the necessary lobbying efforts needed for any comprehensive legislative agenda. JC Response: Yes, it is an approach that should be non-political, and be seen to benefit all parts of society and business, whether businesses are small, medium or multinational. However, not everyone is willing to share the benefits evenly, with rich people thinking they deserve more of the pie, and poor people feeling the same piece of the pie should be theirs. I believe there is enough inefficiency and ineffectiveness in many businesses and governments, which alone could raise the living standards of all of us. Solving the climate change issue is a global opportunity for both business and society, and in fact may be essential to keeping our world safe from destruction and anarchy. SME business owners/leaders can be among the leaders in this process, and there are several business organizations working to help

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
