Pennsylvania’s homeless population is estimated to be around 20,000 people. At least 3,200 of the homeless sleep on subway carts or outside. In its rural areas 8,000 of these people are sleeping on the streets, finding shelter with family and friends, or retreating to any shelter they can find. While Pennsylvania is rapidly trying to provide the homeless shelter with their up and coming HUD programs, this just is not a quick and easy option for all areas. Today technology can be used for everything from going to college, using the internet on our mobile phones, or even ordering fast food and groceries. In 2015 approximately, 78 percent of households owned a computer or a smartphone. According to the Census Bureau low income areas did not own computers at all, nor have internet access. (James, C. 2017) If supplied with computer labs finding an employment opportunity or keeping in touch with family who could help creates many possibilities for them. Computers will allow them finding employment, find family, apply for government assistance, even write a resume. The homeless community is limited to computer access at the library, even then you must supply your own computer now a day. If we can provide internet access to the homeless shelters they can be provided with many outcomes, mostly all positive. James, C. (2017, September).
